
Since 1995, Survey Research Lab has conducted numerous survey projects for a wide variety of clients. Most projects have varied in size, approach, complexity, and content. The following is a sample of some of our more recent clients, including a brief description of their projects.

PSU Alumni Association Survey: The SRL conducted both a phone and web survey of PSU alumni on behalf of the PSU Alumni Association about alumni opinions on PSUAA sponsored events, communications, and member benefits. Over 3,000 PSU alumni participated in the survey. The SRL provided consultation on developing the multi-modal survey and conducted qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results, providing the PSUAA with a final report of survey findings. Oregon Annual Social Indicators Survey: The SRL conducted a random statewide survey of over 1400 households for the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission. Telephone surveys were conducted to gather Oregonians' feelings about Oregon Police, their experiences with police stops, searches, and arrests, voluntary police contacts, their driving habits, and key demographic and household information. (Spring 2009)
Banks Pharmacy Survey: The SRL conducted a survey with residents of Banks, Oregon area residents to be used by Banks Pharmacy as performance indicators to review their services. The goal of the survey was to provide feedback on how the pharmacy could better meet the needs of the community and how local businesses can survive in a challenging economy. Over 180 respondents completed the survey. The SRL provided Banks Pharmacy with a data file, methodology report and frequency analysis. (Spring 2009)
Department of Environmental Quality Residential Wood Combustion Survey:
The SRL provided consultation on survey design and conducted a random statewide telephone survey with 1,298 respondents to gather information about residential wood burning in Oregon. The purpose of this survey was to provide researchers with a better understanding of indoor residential wood heating practices and outdoor woodburning activity to then be used to help design more effective programs to improve air quality in Oregon. The SRL performed data analysis and provided DEQ with a written report summarizing both the methodology and survey results. (Spring 2009)
Recycle at Work Small Business Survey Consultation: The SRL worked with the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability to develop a baseline and follow-up survey of small businesses in Portland, in order to pilot test business recycling resources. The SRL provided consultation on the wording and formatting of the survey instruments as well as survey methodology.(Spring 2009)
Coastal Bend BoldFuture Forum Qualitative Analysis: The SRL provided qualitative analysis of data from the BoldFuture Forum community visioning project for Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi. 1,800 individuals participated in community forums to share their vision for the future of the Coastal Bend region. The SRL conducted qualitative coding for responses to 4 questions that were answered by participants, and provided the BoldFuture steering committee with compiled reports of responses organized by topic, and prepared summarized findings reports for the vision, issues, and action questions. (Winter 2008 – 2009)
PSU ID Services Web Survey: The SRL conducted a web survey of PSU students on behalf of the PSU Business Affairs Office about student preferences and experiences with the PSU ID cards and financial disbursement services. Over 1,400 PSU students participated in the survey. The SRL provided consultation on the survey development, conducted both qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results, and provided both a final presentation and report of survey findings. Portland Park User Survey: SRL conducted a random in-person survey of park users in four Portland parks to better understand why people use the parks and how they might be improved. The survey was conducted for Portland Parks and Recreation. (Summer 2008 - Fall 2008 - Winter 2009 - Spring 2009)
Recycle at Work Consultation: The SRL worked collaboratively with the Portland Office of Sustainable Development to revise a survey that gathered feedback on experiences customers had with the Recycle at Work program. The SRL provided consultation on the wording and formatting of the survey instrument. (Winter 2008)
Oregon Health Plan Lottery Survey: The SRL conducted over 4,500 telephone follow-up surveys with applicants of the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) who had not yet replied to the mailed survey as part of the first wave of the study. The purpose of this survey was to better understand how easy or hard it is to get health care in Oregon, and also how important health care is to Oregon residents. The study was conducted on behalf of the PSU Department of Sociology and the Providence Health System's Center for Outcomes Research and Education. (Fall – Winter 2008)
Multnomah County’s Information and Assistance Satisfaction Survey: The SRL conducted surveys with 175 respondents who called the Multnomah County’s Information and Assistance Helpline and district centers. Surveys were administered over the phone and via the web using an online survey. The County’s goal was to find out callers views on the services and information received from the helpline. (Fall 2008)
Feedbacks between Urban Systems and the Environment (FUSE) Project: The SRL conducted over 600 random household telephone surveys nationwide. This project is being conducted for a team of researchers lead by faculty at Portland State University. This study was funded by the National Science Foundation. The purpose of the study was to learn how people in the United States feel about global climate change and to help policymakers design and implement more effective solutions to global climate change. PSU Master’s in Social Work Alumni Survey: The SRL reviewed and entered data from paper surveys for the School of Social Work’s Alumni Survey. Over 300 PSU alumni took part by completing surveys in order to share their program and post-graduation experiences. (Summer 2008)
Gresham Commercial Recycling Survey Consultation: The SRL worked collaboratively with City of Gresham to revise a survey that investigated the garbage and recycling practices of businesses in Gresham, Oregon. The goal of the survey was to help City of Gresham's Recycling & Solid Waste Division learn how to improve programs and services to better meet customer's needs. The SRL provided consultation on the wording and formatting of the survey instrument. (Summer 2008)
Portland Park and Recreation Survey: A telephone survey with over 1200 Portland residents was conducted by the SRL within six geographic sub-areas. The findings from the survey were used by Portland Parks and Recreation to evaluate how well they are meeting the needs of residents, and to inform decisions about how to improve programs and facilities. (Summer 2008)
Multnomah County’s Institute on Aging Community Aging Survey: The SRL conducted surveys with over 300 older adults in Multnomah County. The results of this survey were used by Multnomah County Aging and Disability Services to help plan and improve services for lower income seniors and their families. (Summer 2008)
Multnomah County Developmental Disabilities Parent Satisfaction and Needs Assessment Survey: The SRL conducted surveys with over 300 caregivers in Multnomah County to find out how the county can better meet the needs of children and their parents or guardians served by the Developmental Disabilities Division. (Spring 2008)
Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Satisfaction Survey: The SRL conducted a customer satisfaction survey with 300 DEQ Air and Water Quality Permit holders and 200 Septic Permit holders to help DEQ provide better services to its customers and the public. (Spring 2008)
One Year Later Survey – The Status of the Class of 2007 Bachelor’s Degree Recipients: The SRL conducted a state-wide survey with over 1,230 recent graduates of the Oregon University System. The purpose of this study was to assess graduates’perception of their educational experience, their satisfaction, and the relationship of their educational experience to their current activities. (Spring 2008)
SmartTrips Alternative Transportation Survey: On behalf of the PSU School of Urban Studies and Planning, the SRL contacted over 500 households in Southwest Portland to follow up on a survey that the City of Portland conducted in September 2007 on transportation and travel habits of Portland residents. This survey assessed the influence of neighborhood and City programs on SW Portland residents’ modes of travel to work, shopping, and other places. (Spring 2008)
Columbia River Gorge Future Forum Qualitative Analysis: The SRL provided qualitative analysis for the Columbia River Gorge Commission’s Future Forum project. Over 400 individuals participated in community forums or completed a web survey to share their vision for the future of the Columbia Gorge. The SRL conducted qualitative data coding for responses to two of the questions that were answered by participants, provided the Future Forum team with manageable compiled reports of responses organized by topic, and prepared a summarized findings report for the vision question. PSU Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Alumni Focus Group: The SRL conducted a focus group with alumni from the Electrical Engineering program at PSU to assist the ECE Department with their curriculum review process. The aim of the focus group was to get feedback on possible changes and additions to the electrical engineering curriculum to better prepare graduates for their future careers. (Spring 2008)
Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Household Hazardous Waste Survey: The SRL provided consultation on survey design and conducted a telephone survey of Oregonians’ behaviors and perceptions about environmental and health risks associated with hazardous household products. A total of 615 Oregonians completed a random statewide survey that included questions about use and perception of dangers associated with hazardous products, lawn care and use of pesticides, use of household cleaners, and use of fishing weights. An additional 188 respondents who had fished within the last year were over-sampled to complete a subset of items about the use of lead fishing weights. (Winter 2008)
PSU Center for Student Success Focus Group Training: The SRL prepared and conducted a four-hour training for staff from the Center for Student Success on how to conduct focus groups. The training was tailored to meet their specific needs, and covered preparation and facilitation of focus groups, as well as the qualitative analysis of focus group data. (Winter 2008)
